Silver Lake

Silver Lake is a freshwater lake located in Waterford Township, Michigan in Oakland County, Michigan, United States.

The lake is located south of Walton Blvd., north of Silver Lake Road, and east of Dixie Highway.

Silver Lake is located on the Clinton River watershed. Silver lake connects with Loon Lake to the west and with Upper Silver Lake (35.5 acres) to the east.

The sand-bottom lake is 101 acres.

At its deepest point, the lake is 73 feet deep, making it the ninth deepest lake in Oakland County. The ten deepest lakes in Oakland County are:

In 1818, Major and Mrs. Oliver Williams and their eight children set out to settle Oakland County along with Mr. and Mrs. Alpheus Williams, their four daughters and two sons, and Captain Archibald Phillips. Major Williams and his family established the first farm settlement in the county on the south shore of Silver Lake. Their farm was the first farm settlement on the Saginaw Trail.

In 1821, the first school in Oakland County was started in the loft of Oliver Williams' sheep barn on the banks of Silver Lake. There were seven students.

In 1822, the first schoolhouse built of logs on Oliver Williams farm, south of Silver Lake. This was first school building in Oakland County and had 13 students.

Silver Lake is surrounded by heavily-wooded residential neighborhoods on all sides of the lake. There is a private boat ramp off of Walton Blvd.

Silver Lake contains a variety of fish, including black crappie, bluegill, largemouth bass, rock bass, smallmouth bass, sunfish, and yellow perch.

 

Loon Lake

Loon Lake is a freshwater lake located in Waterford Township, Michigan. It borders Dixie Highway on the west and is south of Walton Blvd. on the north. The sand-bottom lake is 243 acres, making it the 18th largest lake in Oakland County, Michigan and one of the largest in Waterford Township.

Loon Lake is located on the upper reaches of the Clinton River watershed. The Clinton River enters Lake Loon on the north end from Lake Oakland upstream.

The Clinton River exits to the southwest downstream of Loon Lake.

Loon Lake also connects to Silver Lake to the east.

From Loon Lake, the Clinton River heads west toward the Drayton Plains State Fish Hatchery and then winds its way southward to Cass Lake.

At its deepest point, the lake is 73 feet deep, making it the ninth deepest lake in Oakland County.

Loon Lake is surrounded by residential neighborhoods on all sides except the western shoreline. The community, formerly called Drayton Plains, is on the lake to the west. In the 1960s, Loon Lake hosted annual hydroplane boat races.

Loon Lake contains a variety of fish, including Black Crappie, Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Rock Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Sunfish, Walleye and Yellow Perch.

SchoolHouse Lake

Schoolhouse Lake is an all-sports 37-acre lake located in central Oakland County, on the east side of Waterford in Waterford Township.

The lake is part of the Clinton River watershed.

The depth is approximately 49 feet at its deepest point.

The Clinton River enters Schoolhouse Lake on the north end and exits on the west end. Upstream is Lake Oakland and Wormer Lake (27.5 acres). Downstream from Schoolhouse Lake is Loon Lake.

The village of Clintonville was first settled in 1830 near what was later named Schoolhouse Lake.

The Schoolhouse Lake was so named when Clintonville School No.7, the first school in Clintonville, was built on the banks of the lake at what today is 3101 Walton Blvd. in Waterford, Michigan near Clintonville Road. The school building still stands today.

Schoolhouse Lake contains a variety of fish, including Black Crappie, Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Rock Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Sunfish, Walleye and Yellow Perch.

 

Wormer Lake

Wormer Lake is located in Waterford Township, Michigan. The 27.2-acre lake lies north of Walton Blvd. near Clintonville Rd.

At its deepest point, the lake is 24 feet deep.

Wormer Lake connects to Mohawk Lake and to Schoolhouse Lake.

Wormer Lake fish include Largemouth Bass, Bluegill and Yellow Perch.
